The following mini-collection is my senior design project. Finished in the span of 2 months, Resonance was created for the Auburn Fashion event, an annual display of work from the fashion students at Auburn University. Every piece ( 8 pieces - 4 looks total) was designed, patterned, and constructed by myself.

Resonance has two different meanings. It can be defined as the production of sound resulting from vibration between objects or as a feeling, thought, or memory associated with a piece of music. Music has always been an important factor in my life. As I’ve grown up, I’ve used melodies to capture my memories, each playlist taking me back to a specific moment. I think the way music connects people is beautiful; even without words, a song can touch the emotions of millions. With graduation on the horizon, I’ve spent much time reflecting on my life so far, listening to the playlists mentioned earlier, and cherishing the memories I’ve made. I wanted to make a collection that celebrates music, emotions, and everything building up as I prepare to say goodbye to this chapter of my life. The garments in this collection resemble various forms of sound - some hinting at instruments or sound vibrations themselves. Like sound, emotions come in waves. Imagine you are listening to a song at full volume, and think about whatever stage of emotion you are feeling right now - feel the resonance in your chest. That is how I want this collection to feel.

This guitar inspired look is a miss-matched jacket and pant combination. Using the pinstripe suiting, dramatic shoulder pads create the image of an electric guitar body. The pants are supposed to feel as if music is spilling out of the model. The bottom layer contains all the volume and is made out of a structured fabric, and is covered with a
thin chiffon.

Off-setting the other busy pieces in this collection, this satin dress is a sleek representation of a guitar. Pin-tucks make up most of this dress imitating strings, and creating a similar volume effect to other pieces in the collection.

This look consists a structured silk top with multiple circular cut-outs. The volume surrounding the cut-outs is created using a method of pleating around the circular shapes. It is meant to represent the circular vibrations of a speaker. The skirt is made out of a faux pearlescent leather, and cut into strips. Beading creates a wave effect in the strips, representing sound waves.

Pin tucks are the highlight of this button up, creating a puff sleeve effect that tapers to a flange on the back side. It is made from a stiff silk to create the volume. On to the pants, made from a pinstripe suiting fabric, the legs come to a
train almost as if melting into the floor.
I had never seen a train on a men’s
look before and wanted to experiment
with the way it would look on
a pair of trousers.
