WALTZ

Waltz is inspired by my love-hate relationship with ballet.  I loved the way that the art made me feel beautiful and graceful, but I had my issues with it at well.  There were times where I never felt good enough and I often compared myself with other girls, which is easy to do as you spent 5 nights starring at yourself and each other in a mirror.

In my own moody rendition, I was inspired by the Waltz of the Flowers costumes found in The Nutcracker. I always loved the way that that the skirts looked liked petals, and the leotard seemed to blend seamlessly in to the skirt. My design consists on the corset and the skirt. The shirt was worn for the purpose of photography.

I constructed the corset by draping it and then altering it to fit my size. There were 8 corset pieces in total, with the boning placed down the middle in to the points.  The points of the corset fit directly in to the triangles at the top of the skirt, which is made out of different diamond and triangle shaped pieces.  I created the skirt pieces by drafting a skirt pattern and measuring diamonds to fit the dimensions.  The bottom layer of triangles has a top layer of chiffon, giving the skirt movement and dimension. The skirt is lined and has an invisible zipper closure in the back.
